Duane Ratchford

Duane Ratchford

of Marshall, AR

November 21, 1957 - February 27, 2026

Odas Duane Ratchford, age 68 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Friday, February 27th, 2026 at his home. He was born in Marshall, Arkansas on November 21st, 1957 to Odas Almo Ratchford and Madge House Ratchford.

Duane became a member of the Red Oak Freewill Baptist Church at the age of 15 and was also saved and baptized at a young age. Duane was a member of the Morning Star fire department for over 30 years. He served as the president of Searcy County Fire Chiefs Association for quite a few years. He served as both 1st responder and firefighter. He was a licensed EMT right up until he passed. Duane worked for many years in the retail grocery industry: Eight years at Bi-Lo's, 23 years at Ferguson's Superette and Deli, and 17 years with Frito Lay where he became lovingly known as the ''chip man''. He never met a stranger and became a friend to those he visited with wherever he was at. His outgoing, friendly personality and bright smile will be greatly missed by his community and the many friends he made in the stores he served. He had a heart as big as Texas. He always wanted to be a helper. If he knew you needed help, he would be there. The wrestling community lost their biggest fan. To say Duane was a huge wrestling fan is putting it mildly.

Survivors include his siblings, Janice Jones, Delora Barnett, Rhonda Brock, Sheila Ratchford and L.C. Ratchford; a whole host of other family members and friends will also mourn his passing.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Odas and Madge Ratchford.

Per Duane's wishes, cremation services were by Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas. There will be a community wide celebration of life in the coming days. The family will have a private service.

I caught myself looking for Duane in Harps yesterday when I stopped by. He always had a smile and something to say when I saw him and I'd find myself standing there while he worked, talking about anything that came to mind. I'm sure going to miss him. And by looking through the many posts here and on Facebook, I'm not going to be the only one. My thoughts are with his siblings and family and I pray their memories of Duane will bring them comfort and peace.

We were deeply saddened and shocked when we heard of Duane's passing. Everyone who knew him has a story to tell. When my boys were small, we walked into the Daisy Queen and one of my boys yelled out "Mom, there's Hulk Hogan". To say that made Duane's day was an understatement. He would often remind me of that day.
Praying for all of his family and friends. He will certainly be missed. I can't go into Harp's or the Dollar store now without thinking of him and that friendly smile and greeting he would give you. He knew no stranger and was a friend to all. My heart breaks for all of you. He was certainly loved and a staple in the Community.

To the bother and the sisters, I'm so sorry for your loss. Duane was a kind hearted person, never knew a stranger and would help anyone. May all of you find comfort in the Lord and with the family you have around you. Class of '76

Duane, as kids we ran around on your farm looking for adventure. You were always had a positive take on everything it seemed. May God give you rest and peace. To your sisters and brother, I pray for your peace in this time of sorrow, and that the best of Duane's time here will always bring a smile to dampen the sorrow! Chere' and I are praying for you in this time of grief and mourning. God bless you all.

I found unconditional acceptance & friendship when I met Duane... he was one of the friendliest, kindest, most respectful, most respectable, people I ever met. Duane, I will miss our conversations in the chip aisle of Harps & Walmart. Go rest high ... in peace forever...
