Robert Lee Wright
of West Memphis, AR
May 7, 1937 - March 18, 2026
Robert Lee Wright, 88, entered his heavenly home on March 18, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Born in 1937 to Cecil Wright and Annie Lorece Cain Wright, Robert lived a life rooted in faith, hard work, and a deep love for people. From a young age, he carried a determination that would shape the course of his life.
After graduating from high school, Robert and his best friend, Manuel Haggard, hitchhiked to
Memphis to start a new life. They quickly went to work in trucking, where Robert began building
the strong work ethic that would define his life. Soon after, he transitioned into banking,
beginning a career that would span six decades.
He started his banking career in Memphis and later became an executive at the Bank of West
Memphis. Through dedication and integrity, he worked his way from a teller to the President of
NBC Bank of West Memphis. He loved his work, but more than anything, he loved people. Even
in retirement, he returned to banking more than once simply because he missed serving others.
His strong sense of right and wrong guided him in all he did, once even chasing down a bank
robber during his early years in banking.
Robert met the love of his life, Lynda Louise Rowell. They were married in 1961, and together
they built a life centered on faith and family.
They made their home in West Memphis, where they adopted their daughter, Suzanne, and
later their son, Allen Wright. He was a devoted husband and father, leading his family with love,
steadiness, and an unwavering faith in the Lord. Robert also served his country in the United
States Air Force as a policeman.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church in West Memphis, Robert served as a deacon and
taught Sunday school for many years until COVID. He had a servant's heart and a deep burden
for sharing the Gospel. Because he could speak Spanish, he helped begin a Spanish-speaking
service so more people could hear the Word of God.
Robert believed with his whole heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, and that salvation
comes through faith in Him. He lived that belief daily, in his kindness, his service, and the way
he treated others.
He took care of the body God gave him. He enjoyed staying active through running and biking,
and later rode a tricycle to continue doing what he loved. Most mornings began the same way:
exercise, followed by a good cup of coffee, a simple routine he truly enjoyed.
He was known for his warmth, his humor, and his kind spirit. He loved to have fun and made
sure, the people around him did too. His grandchildren knew him as ''Poppie,'' and he treasured
every moment with them. He could often be found toting his granddaughters from place to
place, driving to Wapanocca so Alex could listen to her burned CDs or taking Ashtan wherever
she needed to go. Those everyday moments became lifelong memories.
Among the many stories his family cherishes is one from early in his banking career, when he
wrote a loan for a young Elvis Presley for one of his first motorcycles, a small glimpse into a life
full of unexpected moments and meaningful connections.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Cecil Terral Wright and William
Wright; his nephew, Frank Wilson; and his beloved wife of 65 years, Lynda ''Mimi'' Wright.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Wright Houston (Bert); his son, Allen Wright (Summer).
his sister, Helen Gwately (Don); his grandchildren, Alex Thomas (Caleb), Ashtan Sieber
(Casey), Tristam Wright, and Henley Wright; and his great-grandchildren, Britton, Mason, and
Baylor.
While his family will miss him deeply, they find peace in knowing he is home with the Lord. His
life was a testimony of his faith, and his words will continue to guide those who loved him: take
care of each other, pray often, and make sure Jesus is in your heart.
''Well done, good and faithful servant.''
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of West Memphis on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1pm, with funeral services to follow at 2 o'clock in the
afternoon. A procession to Crittenden Memorial Park will follow the service. Military honors will
be rendered.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Families in Transition
